The Achenbach Appropriation Project deals with one of the artist's great-grandfathers, Andreas Achenbach, a landscape painter of the late Romantic period who, together with his brother Oswald Achenbach, was a prominent member of the Düsseldorf School of Painting.

DeDe Handon uses zoomed-in, parceled-out photographs of AA ́s painting to question the viewing habits of 19th century landscape painting; to what extent are we still influenced by it today? Under what preferences do we view images in a technologized environment? Using the production techniques of mass culture, original works are created that counteract the automation of perception. The AA Project is also an artistic self-questioning with regard to family influences and the preoccupation with natural subjects in one's own work.
